Tom, I will miss you in this capacity. The Grand Lodge has a lot of work to do regarding this very important issue.

In a way though, I am glad they are giving this to the AGM. It should give this position some sense of purpose other than being the glorified chauffeur.

Good Luck, and I hope to see you in lodge. Don't be a stranger!

Bruce

Br. Tom,

Your situation in CT is not much different that that in NY. I have served as an Assistant Grand Lecturer (each District has at least one), which basically was tasked to visit each Lodge in the District at least once during his term. That visit was to observe the ritual, make comment where appropriate and report back. We were also to observe the conferral of a degree on a candidate or exemplar in each Lodge each year with no repeats - the Lodge doing this on a three year cycle. This was by the GM's edict.

Fortunately our AGL's seem to have had a better time than your DGL's. We encounter the same problems with "traditions". I guess I would agree with the previous commenter in that it is important that we make every attempt to keep ritual on an even keel - or the ritual will morph into something else entirely.

I got a great shot of you, and a great shot of Matt, too. I would have shot Tom if I had seen him.

And in case anyone wants to make a joke out of missing Simon, let me be clear. I did not miss him because I had the pleasure of his company.

(Although he did take my picutre again. -Sorry about your camera.

As I am posessed of no tact whatsoever, I am not the person to do this but....

At some point our unwillingness to not say anything in criticism has to stop, and a tactful way of saying, "You stink at ritual, and what you're doing is wrong" has to be found.

Nest time we catch up, I'd be happy to go over what I think the essentials are. We'll have fun going round the mullberry bush.

P.S. I din't miss Simon one whit. But then, I was there for the whole thing. (lol)

I bumped into your wife, but was distracted by someone else before I could say hello. And I saw a gaggle of GL officers out in the hallway near the Friendship/Plainville rooms, but they wandered off elsewhere as I was involved with fixing the fraternity with some new brothers.
